Boulderscaping: Unique Addition to your Landscape

We have discussed in great depth many aspects of hardscapes and the benefits they can have in your landscape. They are very low maintenance, functional, and a great long term investment for the value of your property. Naturally, there are hardscapes that immediately come to mind, such as: patios, walkways, and retaining walls. However, one often overlooked style of hardscape that we offer is referred to as “Boulderscaping.” It is essentially the use of rocks and “boulders” to naturally accent your landscape. Boulderscaping offers great creative freedom, with the ability to implement rock and stone of all varieties, colors, and sizes. The greatest benefit of boulderscaping is the natural look that it will give your landscape. With that being said, here are some ways you can use boulderscaping to enhance your landscape.

Natural Barriers or Retaining Walls

While retaining wall and stone edges do the trick, one very common usage of boulders in local landscapes is as barriers or dividers between various parts of your landscape. Separating your lawn from a mulched plant bed, or your patio from your garden. It can also be great for lining your property line, fencing, or row of trees or bushes. This increases your privacy, all using boulders straight from mother nature. Additionally, you can use much larger boulders to create natural looking retaining walls.

Accenting Mulched Areas

If you want to create a low maintenance landscape, you can implement boulderscaping all throughout your mulched areas. It will look fantastic, and you can play with design, using boulders of all sizes. Fill in the gaps with some colorful plant material, and you have less lawn to mow, with a better-looking landscape. You can also use a gravel, or decorative rock mulch, for an even easier to maintain piece of landscaping. If you have trees in your yard that are surrounded by beds of mulch, adding a layer of boulders surrounding the trees can give off an even more high-end feel.

Staircases and Walkways

If you want a large natural stone walkway or staircase, this will also fall under the category of boulderscaping. You can utilize big pavers to create seamless hardscapes that move through your property as if they are not even there. On the off chance your property possesses a pond, creek or other natural body of water, you can use boulders to create a natural stone walkway, through the water hazard.

Making the Authentic Choice: Our Process

The beauty of our boulderscaping service is that it cannot be done on your own. We utilize connections to local quarries and hardscape resellers to find the perfect selection of boulders from Northern Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Maryland. The sourcing and delivery process to our Bethel Park headquarters requires the use of specialized equipment, such as excavators, large trucks, and loaders.  From there we source the best selections for your property before they are installed.  We do not skimp on the rocks that we install, and our design build team is the best in the business at creating the most natural looking landscapes.

Dream Greener Lawn & Landscape is led by a staff of service experts, each with ten years or more of professional experience, focused exclusively on design, installation maintenance and care.
